PACKAGING & TRANSPORT
PACKAGING
When IGEN started, all products were shipped without individual packaging. In the early years, when we handled packing ourselves, it was possible to avoid additional packaging.
Today, packaging is a necessary part of our setup. With external warehousing, barcodes, and insurance requirements, we are not able to ship products without individual packaging. At the same time, we have experienced that packaging reduces the risk of products becoming dirty during transport and having to be discarded.
Our work is therefore not about avoiding packaging entirely, but about choosing documented materials and reducing material usage where possible.
SHIPPING BAGS
Our shipping bags are made from RE-LDPE 60µ and consist of 100% recycled plastic. The recycled plastic is documented through a GRS transaction certificate for each delivery from 2026.
We have designed the bags ourselves, which is why we chose to include sorting instructions directly on the packaging, so it is clear how to dispose of it correctly. The shipping bags also feature an extra adhesive strip, allowing the same bag to be reused if you wish to return a product or send another parcel.
When designing the shipping bags, we carefully selected the sizes based on our data on best-selling products, particularly shoppers, to ensure a good fit and avoid unnecessary air and excess material.
PAPER & SHIPPING BOXES
We use FSC-certified cardboard boxes from a Danish supplier. We continuously switch between box types to find the solution that best fits each product. Therefore, the composition may vary, but we aim to choose FSC-certified cardboard boxes from a Danish supplier.
Some of our shipping boxes are made from 100% certified recycled paper at a Danish factory, while others are made from FSC-certified paper at a Danish factory.
The FSC certification documents traceability in the raw material.
PRODUCT PACKAGING
When we use plastic packaging around our products, it is made from 100% recycled plastic. The recycled plastic is documented through a GRS transaction certificate for each delivery from 2026.
We have designed several of our product bags ourselves, including those used for our shoppers. The bags feature printed sorting instructions, making it clear how to dispose of the plastic correctly.
Whenever possible, we adapt the size of the plastic bag to each individual product to avoid unnecessary air and excess material. In some cases, custom sizing is not possible due to minimum order requirements. In these instances, we choose the closest available size – still made from 100% recycled plastic.
Selected products, including cardholders, keychains, buckles, and belts, are delivered in dust bags as an alternative to plastic packaging. The dust bags are made from 100% recycled cotton and are GRS-certified through our supplier. Instead, the products are provided with a hangtag containing the necessary product information and barcode.
The choice of dust bags is partly aesthetic and partly a conscious decision to avoid plastic around these products. The bags are sized closely to the product and are designed to be reused, for example as jewelry pouches or small storage pouches in your bag or wardrobe.
VOLUME & PACKAGING
We focus on packing our products as compactly as possible, also when they are shipped to you. Less packaging and less empty space mean that we make better use of space during transport.
REGISTRATION & PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY
We register and report our packaging volumes in accordance with applicable extended producer responsibility regulations and pay packaging fees through our membership with VANA.
ORDER CARD
With your order, you receive a “thank you for your order” card printed on recycled paper. The card can be reused. On the back, there is a list that can be used as a shopping list or note page. Additionally, a short sorting guide is printed on the card.
