At IGEN, our goal is to minimize our waste through products you can use again and again. Influencing the climate in the right direction is at the top of our agenda and we work every day to become even better and greener!

But impact is many things - and no one is perfect, not even us. That's why we would like to give you an insight into the small and large initiatives we are taking to reduce waste and make YOU greener AGAIN.

All our products are designed to reduce your waste and instead use your things over and over again. Our products are all high quality, which means you only need one product instead of a lot of disposable products that you have to throw away.

IGEN's own products are produced in collaboration with our partners from all over the world.

When we have received our goods, we have climate compensated the freight journey whenever possible. In 2023, all our deliveries from our own production to our warehouse here in Copenhagen will be CO2 compensated. We CO2 compensated the freight through the freight companies we use such as DSV, UPS etc.

We are generally happy to offset CO2, and our entire t-shirt collection is 100% CO2 neutral through CHOOSE.

The packaging of our products is also carefully selected with a focus on Zero Waste. In general, we avoid all unnecessary packaging, and will always strive to choose packaging that at least has a purpose to be reused.

Our Makeup Pads come in reusable packaging - namely in a GOTS certified organic cotton bag. It works perfectly as a laundry bag!

For example, if you buy our To Go Cup, it will come wrapped in a unique linen multi-bag, developed especially for the To Go Cup. You can use it again to store and transport your to go cup - or maybe for something completely different... Storing small items, sunglasses, makeup. The only limits are your imagination.

However, there are also products that require special packaging - for example, our glass products, so we ensure they do not break during the journey. Our scented candles are produced in recycled FSC certified cardboard, which is made specifically for waste sorting. No glue is used to assemble the boxes, and they are easy to make completely flat and ready for recycling.

Many of our other products such as Tote Bags, scrunchies, shoppers, To Go Pouch etc. are not wrapped at all - because they don't need to be. In the packaging we sometimes assess that the products need special protection. This could be our white hair bands, for example. Then they get a small paper bag, which is made of 100% recycled paper that is biodegradable, and the bags are printed with water-based printing paper at a factory in Denmark.

Our Zero Waste focus is also seen in our handling of the webshop. In our office, sustainability is thought out in practice, and therefore we reuse and recycle everything we can.

How we pack your packages:

Depending on what you buy and how many different products you buy, we choose the packaging that best suits your package.

We pack your order as compactly as possible. This reduces the amount of packaging and enables our shipping company GLS to carry even more packages each time. This means they have to drive less back and forth, and ultimately it will save on their CO2 emissions!

Our packaging for the packages is:

Shipping bags. We have two types of shipping bags, depending on the size of your order. We typically ship fabric items in shipping bags.

100% recycled bags produced in a Danish factory. Here they use their excess residual plastic to minimize waste through recycling. The recycled shipping bag is of course free of harmful substances, and when you sort it, it is converted into carbon dioxide and water by incineration at the landfill.

Sugarcane bags are also from a Danish factory, and consist of a minimum of 55% sugarcane fibers, which are developed in a completely new and modern way. Both of our shipping bags are waterproof.

We use bubble envelopes when we send products that need extra protection such as straws, plant cards and drinking bottles. Our bubble envelopes are produced in a climate neutral factory, and therefore your bubble envelope is also completely CO2 neutral! The outer paper is made of quick grass. Quick grass is fast-growing and resource-saving - and not only that, it gives the grass paper a really nice surface, where you can clearly see the structure of the small pieces of grass. The inner bubble plastic is partly made of recycled plastic.

We most often use mailboxes for larger orders.

Our mailboxes are basically made of 100% recycled cardboard, which is also biodegradable. The cardboard box is FSC certified and the cardboard and production are made locally in Denmark. If your order does not fit into our 100% recycled cardboard boxes, you will receive it in an FSC certified cardboard box, which contains up to 70% recycled cardboard also produced here in Denmark.

The mailboxes are all assembled without glue or tape.

In special cases, we also reuse the boxes we receive from production for a package.

You always receive your order confirmation and receipt via email, so we save on both ink and paper. The cards we enclose are - as you probably guessed - of course also made from recycled cardboard and paper.

Do you want to save on shipping? Then you are also very welcome to come by and pick up your package at our office. We are generally open every day between 10 am and 4 pm, but we recommend that you write in the live chat if you want to make sure the office is open when you come.

Our community is important to us. We believe that it is much better if many of us make a small difference together. Through our blog, newsletter and social media, we create content that will inspire and create dialogue. We love talking to our customers about how we can all lift each other up as a group, and inspire a better and more sustainable everyday life. We regularly hold exciting talks and events. Among other things, we have held national Clean Ups with you, and donated reusable pads to women in Africa. We are constantly looking into more rewarding partnerships and projects that can strengthen our community and help make a difference.

We celebrate community, and at IGEN there is room for everyone. You can be one of the climate-savvy ones, or someone who simply wants to save money and waste. We are happy to have you on our journey!

Do you want your gift wrapped? We can do that too! Depending on the size, your gift will be wrapped in a gift box or in FSC certified gift paper. The ribbon is made from recycled plastic bottles. The bottles are collected in Taiwan, where plastic pollution in nature is high. The plastic is melted and converted into fine threads that are collected on giant spools and shipped to the gift ribbon factory. Here, the thread ends are woven into gift ribbons.

We offer virtual gift cards with no expiration date! This way you can be sure to find a gift that you are sure the recipient will love again and again. Our virtual gift cards are sent via email, and can also be sent directly to the gift recipient if you wish. You can then choose and print the gift card yourself if you wish! This way you save both money and time. We also save the environment from packaging and unnecessary CO2 emissions when delivering from our shipping company. It can only be called a special and loving gift!
